Preparing for the busiest shopping season of the year is never going to be a straightforward process. Research shows that many companies do most of their business in the last quarter of the year, and still, lots of merchants find that major shopping events, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, can quickly creep up.

By placing orders further in advance, online sellers can rest assured knowing they are less likely to encounter missed deadlines due to supplier and/or logistics complications.

Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) sellers also need to consider deadlines for their inventory arriving at Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Whilst official deadlines for 2021 are not yet confirmed, here are the dates from last year as a guideline:

  • Inventory for Black Friday and Cyber Monday – by November 6th
  • Inventory for Christmas shopping – by December 1st
  • Inventory for 2021 - no earlier than December 17th

Think Global this Holiday Season

Cross-border selling is well and truly on the rise, and this is a trend that is not going to slow down. In 2022, cross-border e-commerce is projected to account for 22 percent of e-commerce shipments of physical products. This means that sellers now have even more opportunities to grow their businesses and expand globally.

With the expected surge in sales surrounding the upcoming holiday season, why wait until 2022 to get in on the global action? For more information, read our blog: International Expansion: How to Make the Most Profit

Online sellers should also be looking internationally when identifying suppliers for their business. Sellers will often be able to find partners abroad that can produce and distribute their required inventory at a reduced price. With the holiday season just around the corner, this is something that should be considered sooner rather than later.
